Dog Walker Cost in 2026: Per Walk, Week and Month

Updated 5 min

A typical US dog walker charges $20 for a 30-minute walk, and about $30 for a full hour. A second dog on the same walk? Roughly $10 more. If your dog gets a 30-minute walk every weekday, that's around $100 a week, or about $430 a month.

Those figures are the medians of the prices dog walkers set on Sittsy in September 2026: 1,610 US walkers for the 30-minute price, the 251 who typed in their own 60-minute price, and the 662 who set a price for a second dog. Most walkers charge between $15 and $25 for 30 minutes. These are the walkers' own listed prices, not an average of past bookings.

Dog walking prices by length and number of dogs

WalkTypical price
30 minutes, one dog$20
Each extra dog on a 30-minute walk+$10
60 minutes, one dog$30
30 minutes, puppy rate$24

There's no typical extra-dog price for a 60-minute walk or a puppy, so ask the walker.

A word on the 60-minute figure. Most walkers never type in an hour price, and when they don't, Sittsy fills in 1.5 times their 30-minute rate. We left those auto-filled prices out and counted only the 251 walkers who picked their own. Their median is $30, which happens to be exactly 1.5 times the typical $20 half-hour.

The puppy rate is a separate price that 663 walkers set for puppies. Its median sits $4 above the standard 30-minute walk.

How much does a dog walker cost per week or month?

One 30-minute walk every weekday comes to $100 a week, or about $430 a month (a month here is the average 4.33 weeks). A 60-minute walk every weekday is $150 a week, about $650 a month. Two 30-minute walks a day double it to $200 a week, about $870 a month.

A second dog costs less than a second walk: two dogs on one 30-minute walk come to $30, against $40 for two separate walks. That's $150 a week for two dogs walked every weekday.

Does it matter where you live?

Less than you'd expect, with one clear exception. The table counts walkers who live within 25 miles (40 km) of each city center, so suburbs are included. Each walker is counted once, in the nearest of the 25 cities where Sittsy has the most sitters, and we only show a city where at least 15 walkers list a price. Below that, one or two unusual prices can drag the middle figure around.

In 15 of those 21 areas, the typical walk lands within $2.50 of the national $20. San Francisco is the outlier at $30, where only a quarter of walkers charge less than $23. Phoenix and Tempe are less than 10 miles apart, so they split one metro area between them: read the two rows together.

What makes a dog walk cost more?

Walkers price two extras on their profiles, length and number of dogs, and the first table covers both. Past that, it depends on the walker:

  • A dog who has to be walked alone, say one who reacts to other dogs or pulls hard, may cost more with some walkers.
  • Need early-morning, evening or holiday walks? Ask about those times up front.
  • For a regular weekly schedule, ask whether the walker prices it differently from one-off walks.

One more thing worth asking: is it just your dog on the walk, or a group? The price on Sittsy is for your dog. It won't tell you whether the walker takes other dogs along.

What does a 30-minute dog walk include?

Usually the walker picks your dog up at home, walks for the booked time, brings them back, refills the water bowl and wipes muddy paws. On Sittsy, you get updates in the app. Agree on the details before the first walk: the route, leash and harness, treats or no treats, and the plan for heavy rain or extreme heat.

What to ask a dog walker before you hire them

  • Can we meet first, with my dog, and do a short trial walk?
  • Have you walked dogs like mine (size, energy, leash manners)?
  • Is it just my dog on the walk, or a group?
  • How will you get in, and how do you keep my key or code safe?
  • What happens if you're sick or running late?

Dog walker or doggy day care?

Two 30-minute walks cost about $40 a day. Day care at a sitter's home typically runs $35 a day (585 sitters list it on Sittsy), and your dog has company the whole time. If your dog is fine alone between walks, one or two walks is plenty. If long days alone are hard on them, day care across the US may cost you less.
