My Experience With Pets & What a Typical Day Looks Like Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and I have always treated my pets as family. At one point, I cared for four dogs at the same time, each with completely different personalities, energy levels, routines, and needs. That experience taught me how important it is to truly get to know an animal rather than assuming every dog can be cared for the same way. I have personally owned and cared for Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, and German Shorthaired Pointers, along with my current senior dog, Jake. Having multiple dogs with such different needs gave me extensive experience balancing exercise, feeding schedules, potty routines, enrichment, training, companionship, and individual attention. My Great Pyrenees required a different type of care than my Great Dane. I learned to pay attention to things like their exercise tolerance, size, comfort, grooming, temperament, and the importance of allowing them appropriate downtime. My German Shorthaired Pointer was much more energetic and mentally driven, so keeping them fulfilled meant incorporating plenty of movement, play, exploration, and mental stimulation rather than simply letting them out in the yard. With Jake, who is now a senior, my focus has naturally shifted toward patience, comfort, routine, mobility, and paying close attention to subtle changes in his behavior or needs. I also have professional experience as a veterinary medical assistant, in addition to my background as a medical assistant in human healthcare. That experience has given me an especially strong appreciation for preventative care, recognizing changes in an animal’s condition, following veterinary instructions carefully, administering medications when appropriate, and understanding that small changes in appetite, energy, behavior, or mobility can sometimes be important. A typical day with my pets has always been about much more than food and potty breaks. I love creating a routine that includes walks, outdoor time, play, enrichment, affection, rest, and plenty of one-on-one attention. I pay attention to what each animal enjoys and what makes them feel secure. Some dogs need a long walk and lots of activity, while others are happiest with a slower stroll, mental stimulation, cuddles, or simply having someone nearby. When I care for someone else’s pet, I bring that same level of attention and responsibility. I understand that leaving a beloved pet with someone is a big deal, and I want owners to feel confident that their pets are not simply being watched, but genuinely cared for. I am attentive to routines, respectful of each pet’s personality and boundaries, comfortable with large and energetic dogs, and prepared to provide the patience and individualized care that every animal deserves. To me, pet sitting is about building trust with both the pet and their owner. My goal is for every animal in my care to feel safe, loved, understood, and as comfortable as possible while their family is away.

A Typical Day With My Pets A typical day with my dog, Jake, is centered around making sure he is happy, comfortable, exercised, and getting plenty of attention. Having experience with very large breeds as well as high-energy working and sporting breeds has taught me how important it is to understand each individual pet’s personality, exercise needs, routines, and comfort level. I also have a background as a veterinary medical assistant, in addition to my experience as a medical assistant in human healthcare. That experience has given me additional confidence when it comes to recognizing changes in behavior, following care instructions carefully, administering medications when needed, and paying close attention to an animal’s overall well-being.
